Diskripsi
Tumbuhan:
Pokok boleh mencecah sehingga 29 m tinggi, tidk mempunyai
banir, dahan muda kehitaman, kulit gelap ke coklat pucat apabila muda dan kekelabuan-coklat
apabila kering. Daun: daun (10-) 22-145 mm
panjang, glabrous untuk jarang berbulu, coklat hingga kehitaman apabila kering,
lamina eliptik, keras, bahagian dasar daun cuneate; hujung acuminate, sehingga
20 mm panjang; permukaan atas glabrous. Perbungaan staminate, biasanya bercabang,
banyak-bunga, bunga bertaburan di sepanjang jambak, berwrna kekuningan, jambak buah sehingga 15 cm
panjang, 4-6 mm tebal. Buah bentuk kapsul,
Benih ellipsoid.
Kegunaan: Buahnya boleh dimakan, selain digunakan sebagai pokok hiasan.

Habitat: Mostly in undisturbed mixed dipterocarp forests, but also in
(peat-) swamp, sub-montane and keranga forests up to 1600 m altitude.
Plant
description:
Tree up to 29 m high, buttresses absent,
young shoots blackish, bark dark to pale
brown when fresh, greyish-brown when dry. Leaves: petiole (10-)22-145 mm
long, glabrous to sparsely hairy, brown to blackish when dry, lamina elliptic,
leathery to papery; base attenuate to cuneate; apex acuminate to cuspidate, up
to 20 mm long; upper surface glabrous, some-times granulate. Staminate
inflorescences, usually branched, many-flowered, flowers scattered along
inflorescence yellowish, Infructescences up to 15 cm long, 4-6 mm thick. Fruits
(sub) globose, fleshy capsules, Seeds globose to ellipsoid, laterally
flattened.
Uses: The fruits are edible, sweet-sour. Sold in markets and cultivated
in gardens.
